Last week, I had dinner with a friend and she said something that stopped me in my tracks. I asked her what was inspiring her lately and she took a moment to think and said, "Me. I'm inspiring me lately!". I raised my eyebrow and looked at her in complete awe because I understood exactly what she meant and why it was important to say it outloud to someone.
We are always taught to be humble and modest. It's so ingrained in us that we even have a hard time accepting compliments. My friend went on to give examples of how she managed to take care of herself throughout the pandemic, negotiated a huge deal at work, and took better care of her mental health - all things that should be celebrated.
, have you ever caught yourself downplaying your accomplishments? Or a compliment from a loved one? We'd rather others think that we aren't full of ourselves when reality is we should be full ourselves!
Hear me out. Did you know the definition of "full of ourselves" means very self-satisfied and with an exaggerated sense of self-worth? I don't know about you but there is nothing wrong with this definition to me - especially when society tries to tell you who should feel worthy or not. Once I started being satisfied
with myself and acknowledge my self-worth, I began to have clearer thoughts and better relationships.
It may be difficult but we have to be willing to celebrate ourselves. Let today be the first of many days that you choose to brag and feel very self-satisfied with an exaggerated sense of self-worth.
In your next check-in with a friend, tell them how YOU have inspired YOU lately. Or reply back to this email before taking that leap. I'd love to see you brag.
