After a year of working independently from home, I picked up a full-time job that put my work from home life on pause.
While I LOVE the fact that I get to interact with other people throughout the day, I was reminded that I don’t miss how easy it is to fall into the habit of putting work over my personal needs.
See, , I actually consider myself to be great at creating boundaries at work. I rarely take calls on my cell phone, I only check my email at work, and don’t even think about asking me to complete a task on my day off.
Even with these boundaries in place, they don’t stop me from thinking about work or feeling overwhelmed at times.
Did I hit submit on that project?
Will I remember to send that email in the morning?
Did I forget my coffee mug on the lunch table?
Even though these thoughts are temporary, they interfere with the time I’d like to dedicate to exercising, reading, and hanging out with friends.
So today, I’m writing this intro as a reminder to myself and to you that life exists beyond the workplace. You are not defined by your job (or job title) and you deserve time to not think about payroll, sales goals, or client retention.
If you find yourself working after hours or thinking about work during leisure time, pause, acknowledge what’s happening, and move on.
If you have tips, thoughts or ideas about creating a healthier “work-life balance”, I’d love to hear from you.
