As a personal trainer, can you guess the most common question I receive from clients and Strength Club members at the start of a month? I’ll give you a hint, it has nothing to do with actual exercises...
The most common questions are always about motivation and accountability.
“How do I stay motivated to do my sessions?”
“I need a more accountability to stay consistent”
“How do I find time to do my sessions?”
These are all valid concerns and they are way more common than you think. Some trainers will say “no excuses, just get it done” but I know it’s not that simple.
Humans are complex and we’re all wired differently. Some of us can stick with a training plan and some of us stop after two weeks, even when we have good intentions. No shame or judgement here.
However, it’s the beginning of a new month and if you identify with any of the questions above, here are some of the tips I share with clients and Strength Club members:
Be realistic about your time. If you struggle with time management or have a demanding schedule, don’t commit to 5 workouts/week. Try 2 or 3 and slowly add more over time.
Schedule your workouts in advance. Use your phone’s calendar app or your planner to write down the dates and times you plan to exercise. Be as specific as possible. Ex: “Monday at 6AM - Walk 30 minutes + Upper Body.”
Have a plan. Are you one of those people who show up to the gym and walks around for 15 minutes before picking a machine? Or maybe you spend 20 minutes searching YouTube for the perfect 15 minute core workout? 🙈 Having a plan will save time and usually leads to better fitness improvements along the way.
Don’t beat yourself up for missing a workout. Sure, missing a session can snowball into missing others but it doesn’t have to be that way. Instead of beating yourself up, use that energy to prepare for your next session.
Easier said than done but we all have to start somewhere. If May is the month you plan to be more physically active, let’s make it happen. If you’re not sure where to start, your first week of Strength Club is free when you start a new trial.
Feel free to respond to this email with your workout schedule for the week. I can't wait to hear from you.
