Have you ever heard of the 5-minute action? It’s when you set aside 5-minutes of your day (morning, afternoon or evening) to build a specific habit. If you’re a serial procrastinator like me, or you tend to overcommit (also, like me), this little trick can go a long way.
Instead of saying, “I’m going to finish 1 book every month”, you break it down into bite size daily actions by reading 5 minutes of a book every night before bed.
Not only does this give you more control of how you spend your time, you’ll feel satisfied completing a daily commitment that you can actually stick to. No more feeling bad about not doing your mobility exercises.
Here are a few other examples of what you can do with your 5-minute action:
- Write out your daily to-do list for the next day
- Send a text to a friend you haven’t spoken to in a while
- Go for a quick walk around the block
- Drink a glass of water
- Meditate or write in a gratitude journal
- Check on/water your plants
You get the idea. This week, my 5-minute action is to do admin on our website at 10AM. It usually takes less than 5-minutes but I always put it off. , if you’d like to join me in creating an action of your own, shoot me back a quick email telling me what you plan to do.
Just remember, it has to be something that’s easy to do so that you’ll follow through.
