Hey ,
I spent the last few weeks beating myself up over how I've been managing my time during the pandemic. The last thing I wanted was a social media guru telling me to "maximize my productivity" so I decided to re-listen to Atomic Habits by James Clear because his approach was more in line with my values.
If you're unfamiliar with Clear's work, it's all about helping readers create better habits and systems in their personal and professional lives.
Almost immediately, I realized that I didn't have a problem with creating habits, systems or to-do lists. I had developed an unhealthy habit of picking up my phone and opening up Instagram. I was spending hours scrolling mindlessly and struggled with managing my time to do things I actually wanted to do like read a book, workout or catch up with loved ones.
On Friday, I decided to take a break. I deleted all of my social media apps from my phone and committed to only checking messages or posting from my desktop computer. Would you believe me if I told you that I picked up my phone over 100 times to check social media on Saturday alone? 🤦🏾♀️
, don't worry, I'm not here to tell you to delete your Instagram account. I know that a healthy relationship with our phones and social media can be great for connecting with others. In fact, Kiera and I rely on it for staying connected with you all!
But if you're like me and tend to be hard on yourself about how you use your time, phone usage is probably a good place to start. If you've managed to shake your social media habit or interested in cutting back, respond to this email because I'd love to hear from you!
