Good morning ,
When we launched City Fit Girls, our primary focus was to make fitness and running more accessible and inclusive. From our group runs/workouts to City Fit Girls Strength Club, we always provided some type of programming to help you reach your fitness goals.
Even with all we do, I felt like something was missing...
Prioritizing mental health. Managing my mental health was not a part of my upbringing. I grew up in a low-income household and was taught to suppress my emotions because there were other pressing things to worry about. Depression, anxiety, and negative self-talk were a normal part of my life. I watched many people, including my mother, suffer in silence due to this way of thinking.
As an adult in my 30s, I'm unlearning the trauma and damage from living this way. I've spent a lot of time sitting with my emotions, taking accountability for my actions, and learning how the mind works. It was important to me to figure out how I could help the City Fit Girls community do the same through mindfulness, meditation, and yoga.
, we added the mindfulness section to this newsletter a few months ago and I began hosting free meditations on Instagram to help others navigate COVID-19. After months of teaching (and years of practicing), I'm launching a 4-week meditation series.
Mindfulness and meditation is NOT a substitute for therapy. The intention of the series is to help you develop (or deepen) your meditation practice. These workshops are 45-60 mins and include a mix of meditating and discussions. Topics will range from acceptance, overcoming insecurity, forgiveness, self-love, and so much more.
We hope these additional offerings positively impact your quality of life and help you continue to build the life you want. Registration is open for the first series that starts this Saturday at 9 AM. If you could benefit from participating in the series or interested learning more about meditation in general, please don't hesitate to reach out. I'd love to hear from you.
