Happy Monday ,
How was your weekend? I spent most of my weekend moving into a new apartment. It's been five years since my last move and I knew this was going to be a big one. Why? Because new beginnings can be tough. Whether it's a new house, job, relationship, etc., there's so much uncertainty on the pursuit of happiness.
, how do you navigate new beginnings? Do they excite you? Scare you? Or maybe it's a little bit of both?
Heading into this week, I can honestly say that my move went surprisingly smoother than I thought. There were a few coordinating hiccups, but overall I had a great experience.
As we head into our "new normal", I want to share the tactics that helped me this weekend in hopes that they can help you with your own new beginnings.
Be Open To Uncertainty
Any major change is filled with a world of uncertainty. We temporarily lose our sense of safety and connectedness and it's hard to navigate. When this comes up, it's important to remember that the only thing constant in life is change. You've navigated uncertainty more than you can count. The key here is to get curious, lean in, and fully embrace it.
Let Go Of Expectations
It's okay to have a wishlist and accountability. The challenge comes through our reactions when things don't go according to plan. We tend to spiral down with negative thoughts or become "paralyzed". Your ability to accept that everything may not turn out the way you want is key. Create a plan A, B, and C (while also accepting whatever happens beyond your control).
Trust The Process
Have faith that it will all work out. As someone who has a habit of skipping steps (hello, furniture instruction manuals), truly trusting the process has shown tremendous benefits. Commit to being fully present every step of the way.
, on the pursuit of happiness, we lose sight of the steps it takes to get there. Give yourself a peace of mind for all your new beginnings by following the steps above. If you have more strategies that work for you, reply to this email. I'd love to hear about them.
Cheers to new beginnings,
