It’s hard to believe that our last City Fit Girls group run in Philadelphia was Wednesday, March 11th. To be honest, I have no idea when we’ll have the chance to run together again (in Philadelphia or Denver). With large group activities being limited for the foreseeable future, solo runs are going to be the norm... for a while.
For those of you, like me, who used group runs and group fitness classes as a source of motivation, the last few months have been tough. It was always easy for me to commit to running when I knew that other people were expecting me to show up. Now, finding the motivation to lace up my running shoes on Wednesdays doesn’t come as easy.
, have you been struggling to settle into your fitness routine while quarantined? Let's acknowledge that it’s unlikely that things will go back to being exactly the way they used to be. Continue to give yourself permission to trade your long run for a long walk or to swap that HIIT class for deep breathing and mobility. Here are a few resources that will hopefully help you move again:
Facebook Group: We need community now more than ever. The City Fit Girls Facebook Group is a resource for you to connect with each other and share your fitness updates. Don't be shy. We want to see your post-run selfies, your recipes, your workouts, grocery hauls, etc.
Strength Club: City Fit Girls Strength Club is our training program designed with runners and cyclists in mind but can be utilized by anyone interested in getting stronger. If you maintain a consistent running schedule, I’d recommend starting with 1-2 total body workouts/week.
Weekly Virtual Group Runs: We encourage you to download STRAVA and join the City Fit Girls team to stay up-to-date on runs, challenges, etc. Although we may not be able to run together, logging 3-miles every Wednesday can add a sense of normalcy if you're missing group runs.
Training Plans: We know that races have been cancelled and postponed but that doesn't mean you can’t start working towards your personal running goals. I’ll be gradually posting new training plans and challenges to the City Fit Girls website to give you something to do.
, we're all in this together. If you have a friend or family member who could benefit from our online community, don't hesitate to forward them this email.
