It's the Perfect Time to Join Strides for a Group Run!
Hey ,
How was your weekend? We had an amazing time at our group run on Saturday! 50 runners and walkers joined us for 3-5 fun miles in Wissahickon Valley Park. This was our first official run in our new location and we're excited to keep the momentum going! You can check out photos from the run on our website.
Walk or Run With Us! If you're feeling nervous about joining us for a run, check out some feedback from this weekend:
"Hey y'all, I really enjoyed myself this morning (more than I thought b/c a jawn doesn't jog that often). More than the workout, y'all have really cultivated a great community. Everyone was so friendly and welcoming. I appreciate that a ton! <3" - Jordan.
"I loved the walking option because it makes the community even more accessible, especially for folks who have never run before or who ran in the past. I was still able to feel surrounded by the support, fun, and joy that I’ve felt in past years when I was a more active runner." - Mon.
We know finding motivation during the summer may be a bit of a challenge so we're excited about creating more opportunities for you to connect with new people and reach your training goals!
Train With Us: Speaking of training goals... I've been feeling inspired by the local running community and I'm looking forward to adding a few late summer and fall races to my calendar. How about you, ? Are you ready to commit to that 5K Walk/Run or take on that half-marathon?
There are a few events on my radar and I'd love to run with members of the Strides Community out on the course!
I know what you're thinking..."How will I train?" "Who will I train with?" "Kiera, can I really do this?"
Signing up for a race can be intimidating, especially if you're new to running or getting back into the sport. Even though I had a great training season for the Broad Street Run, I'm still nervous about running the Philly Half Marathon again this fall. It's normal!
Training Plans: If you're not sure where to start, we have a collection of training plans available (free of charge!) on the Strides website. You can check them out below:
, even if training for a race isn't on your agenda, I hope you run with us this race season. You can rely on our group runs, training plans, and community to help you reach your goals (and have fun along the way).

Save the date: Join us for a 3-5 mile fun run in Forbidden Drive on Saturday, July 30! Meet at Historic Rittenhouse Town at 9AM. Walking is welcomed and encouraged!
What's the Scoop on the Mayor's Cup?
The Philly Mayor's Cup is returning on Saturday, August 13th and we will be participating again. Our team is open to all regardless of gender!
The Philly Mayor's Cup is a celebration of the culture of community amongst Philadelphia runners, held on historic Belmont Plateau. This one is only about the team: there are no individual winners. One day, dozens of run clubs, and five races: 5K, 5-Mile, 10K, 10-Mile, and a half-marathon.
Register and join our club. Look for Strides and then enter our team password: Rage. 🤷🏾♀️ Get ready for a lot of fun, food, and running! Send us any questions you may have!

Running & Fitness: How Healthy is Your City?
Every year, the ACSM American Fitness Index ranks the country’s 100 largest cities on community fitness. For the 5th year in the row, Arlington, VA ranks #1 on this list with Philadelphia coming in at #62.
Other Key Findings:
- New Orleans ranks the highest for poor mental health while Miami ranks the lowest.
- Boston, Chicago, Philadelphia, and Washington, DC are ranked top 10 for Community/Environment
- The ACSM and CDC both recommend Americans participate in strength training at least 2x/week
We hope city planners, public health officials, and fitness industry professionals use this info to help close the gap in health disparities across the country. Read the report summary or take a deeper dive into the data by comparing health disparities across cities.
