Hey ,
After an incredible Broad Street Run and birthday celebration, I thought I could start training business as usual last week. Well if there's one thing the body does well, it's tell you when you're wrong.
After a short run, my body felt achy and fatigued. It didn't help that my period showed up. Despite my best intentions, my body needed rest. I just couldn't muster up the energy to do the 2 workouts and 3 runs on my schedule.
To be honest, I was confused. I couldn't figure out what was "wrong" with me. How could I run ten miles a few weeks ago but not a few miles to get back into the swing of things? Have you ever experienced this, ?
Then it hit me - I WAS DOING THE MOST. I just raced 10 miles, hosted a party a few days later, and my hormones were out of wack. Why was I trying to be superwoman? More importantly, why didn't I plan to rest after all of this impact on my body?
Once this finally clicked for me, I quickly changed my intention for the week. I swapped my workouts for yoga and neighborhood walks, asked a friend to do a daily green smoothie challenge with me, and gave myself permission to take it easy with food and fitness.
This weekend, I spent some time thinking about my workouts and meals for the week ahead. I am glad I have a plan but I won't be too rigid about it. If my body needs more time to rest then I want to make sure I honor that.
- if you were looking for a sign to slow down, this is it.
