Ready for Broad Street
Hey ,
"I am no longer comparing myself to the old me because the new me is here and very present." - That's what I texted a few friends after completing my longest training run for Broad Street. 🔥
Where does the time go? Heading into race week feels both exciting and bittersweet. I can't say this journey was easy but it has been a true example that you can begin again at any time. For some reason, we don't always reflect on the process as much as we reflect on the end game. So I am using this week's intro to do just that.
When I was considering running the Broad Street Run 10-Miler, I was in the middle of healing an ankle injury and haven't ran much in 2 years. It did not look like I would be ready to start running again by the time we launched our program. Takia gently encouraged me to relax lol and advised me to spend time re-building strength in advance.
Takia's advice helped me create a solid foundation that eventually led me to complete every training run and every strength workout throughout the entire program. Even when I needed an extra rest day, I was able to recover and get right back on schedule.
, there's a lot that comes up during training. This level of commitment can expose your mental toughness, push you to try unconventional recovery strategies, and test your ability to stick to a plan or not. Throughout all of this training there's one thing that I already consider my greatest accomplishment: I've regained my ability to follow through.
Regardless of what happens on Sunday, I revel in the fact that I am no longer the person I used to be who would quit when things got hard, didn't keep commitments, and struggled seeing a training through from start to finish.
If you are running Broad Street, I hope you take time to reflect on the journey so far including one thing you already consider your greatest accomplishment.
If you are inspired to train for your next race, don't let the old version of you get in the way of what the current version of you is capable of doing. You can begin again at anytime.
P.S. If you are running or cheering for the Broad Street Run, let us know!
