Last week we announced that our next group run would be THIS Saturday (July 16th) in Germantown. Philly friends, we hope to see you there!
We figured this would be a great time to share some updates on our commitment to make running and fitness more accessible for all.
Last year, we were finalists in the Well City Challenge. Although we didn’t win the grand prize, the process helped us narrow down our focus on how we could help improve health outcomes in the Philadelphia community. Our goal was to bring the Strides community to neighborhoods throughout the city and
expand our group runs beyond Center City.
With that in mind, we have an exciting update to share with you. Drum roll, please…
We are officially moving our home base from Dilworth Park (City Hall) to Northwest Philadelphia, specifically Germantown.
When we first started meeting at City Hall, Dilworth Park was a brand new public space. There was no Center City Sips events, no skating rinks, and no organized fitness programming. We were just new runners who were excited to provide an all-levels, welcoming group run experience.
Well, a lot has changed since our first run in September 2014 and we figured it was time to bring our running community back home to the neighborhood where it all started (Club Cardio, anyone? 👀).
What this means going forward…
- With the exception of our Ben Franklin Bridge Runs and Annual Holiday Lights Run, all Strides group runs will take place in Northwest Philadelphia (Germantown, Manayunk, Mt. Airy, West Oak Lane).
- Runs that take place along Forbidden Drive will be open to walkers, strollers, children, and folks who are not yet able to complete 3-miles of running. We want to reduce as many barriers as possible.
- We will continue to be a resource for ALL runners in the Philadelphia community. Our website and newsletter will continue to be a hub with free training plans and running workouts for everyone to enjoy.
Over the past two years, you have proven that this community is about much more than running on Wednesdays. We hope to have your continued support along this new journey.
