This Saturday is a major milestone for me. I’ll be celebrating the one-year anniversary of purchasing my first home. While that may call for an actual celebration for some, it serves as a reminder of a different life-changing event for me.
Three days later, it will be one year since I was in a car accident that I thought would end my life. I never thought I’d be able to run or lift weights again, and to be completely transparent, I barely did either since the accident. For a while, almost every run or workout I completed has come along with some back or neck pain.
As I get closer to this one-year milestone, I’ve become more willing to accept that I can’t change what happened. The anxiety I feel every time I get into a car and replaying the crash every time I get on the expressway are things that I hope will go away as time passes.
Not running or doing Strength Club consistently? I’m no longer able to sit with that. This month, I aim to run more consistently in preparation for Mayor’s Cup and the Philly 10K.
If I can ease back in and hit 40 miles in July, it would be the most important milestone of the year.
If you’re returning to fitness from an injury or any other reason, I invite you to set a goal of your own to work towards this month.
And if you need something to work towards, I’m a little biased, but I hear Mayor’s Cup (see below) is a good time.
